The Covington Woman’s Club of GFWC will be collecting nonperishable food and canned goods during the month of September at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library on Riverside Drive in Covington, Virginia. You may drop off food in a box near the front desk or make a monetary donation at the front desk.
"Food insecurity – defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as lacking enough food to live a healthy, active life – is on the rise. There is lower unemployment, but many Americans are not earning enough to cover the surging cost of living. To make matters worse, cuts to the food-stamp program reduced benefits at a time when groceries are 20% more expensive than two years ago," reports club President, Bev Warburton.
This project is a collective effort of state federations, districts, and clubs on GFWC’s National Day of Service on September 28, 2024 to battle food insecurity & hunger in America.
You may also support the project by writing a check to the Covington Woman's Club and mail it to the Covington Woman's Club, P.O. Box 285, Covington, Virginia, 24426. The donations will be split between the two Covington food pantries for local distribution.
